RECHARGE!

Happy Labor day everyone! I hope you are enjoying your long weekend? I am definitely enjoying mine. I am currently in San Antonio, Texas with my husband. A big shout out to my mother in love, she was very kind to watch our son this past weekend so we could take a mini vacation. If you don't know San Antonio is one of my favorite City to visit. I don't know what it is but there is something about this city that just makes me happy and relaxed.

Before we started our family, Traveling is something my husband and I enjoy doing. You can check our Dubai vacation here. It is very easy as parents to focus a lot of your attention on your kids ( which is a good thing) but it is necessary to take time out to recharge, because you can't draw from an empty well. This is what my husband and I did and I would encourage every parent to do so as your budget allows.

  1. Plan ahead : When you decide you want to take a vacation with your spouse without the kids Plan! Plan!! Plan!!!. Make sure you have someone reliable to take care of your kids when you are not around. Do all you can to make it easy for them, if they will be staying at your house make sure there is food and other essentials so they won't have to worry about any of that. Have an action plan in case of an emergency, let them know if your child has any allergies and what medication they need.

  2. Save: People get apprehensive when you mention the word budget (you shouldn't), a budget tells your money where to go not wondering where it went. In order to take and enjoy any vacation you need some money. As a family we have a sinking fund called "Vacation" where we save a certain amount monthly, then we use the funds for our vacation. We don't believe in going into debt for vacation #debtfreevacay ( let me know if you want a detailed blog post on how to create a sinking fund).

  3. Know your destination: The good thing about a mini vacation is that you don't have to do anything extra fancy if you don't want to. You can stay in your city, simply rent a hotel with your spouse and go site seeing. The purpose of this is to reconnect with your spouse. For us San Antonio is about a 5 hour drive from Dallas which makes it perfect because we are not too far away from home in case we need to go back in case of an emergency (God forbid).

  4. Accommodation: When it comes to deciding where to stay look for places that would give you the most value for your money. Personally I wouldn't stay in a hotel that doesn't provide free breakfast. This might seem trivial but if the hotel provides breakfast that is one less meal we have to pay for. In order to get the best deal you have to make your reservations ahead of time. My husband got the hotel and rental car via Costco, if you have a membership you can take advantage of that.

  5. Have Fun and Enjoy: It doesn't matter what you and your spouse decides to do, make sure you have fun and enjoy it. Call and check up on the kids every now and then, and know that it is totally okay to miss them. Here are some of the pictures from the San Antonio Aquarium.

Let me know in the comments, what is your favorite City to visit ?

Until my next blog post, remember you can do ALL things through Christ.

Xx
